Wanted to face off some of Dio's best known albums against each other. Try to make it about the albums only and not about the bands.
In other words, don't vote for Sabbath vs Dio vs Rainbow.....vote the album on the music's merits.
Leave a word about your vote if you wish

Had to go with Heaven & Hell, everything about that album is perfect, in particular Dio's lyrics and vocals, although Holy Diver is a very, very close second.

Diver-- it had a raw immediacy that isn't evident on the other choices, the snapshot of a very tight band in its earliest moments

I just order Rising so I'll have to wait a bit to vote.

I don't know that Holy Diver album but between the others it's definitely Heaven And Hell, like The Doctor said...it's perfect.

Rising, one of the best albums from seventies.

I will go with "The Last In Line", since it was the first album by and with Dio I ever listened to.

Heaven and Hell, just for Dio's incredible, impossible singing, especially on Neon Knights.

RIP Dio! He was at one time easily my favorite vocalist back in the day. Him and Rob Halford easily shaped my singing preferences. I have to go with Holy Diver, but I love all of these albums.

Same here. One of the few times I bought an album solely based on some positive rock magazine reviews.

you forgot Elf and Butterfly Ball (ok, it's indeed better to forget the latter...).

My favourite Black Sab with Dio is the live album 'live evil'.

Heaven and Hell just barely over Last in Line for me. Close though. I like the two Dios as well as the two Sabs all in all.
Rainbow did little for me, no surprise, I've never cared for Blackmore much.

The title track to that album is an absolute monster of greatness, with Dio going full-out not only singing-wise but in terms of his archetypal head-scratching lyrics as well.

^Yep, and it balances nicely between the grandiose and the fasty, punchy rock. I think the writing and the playing are both equal or better than HD and the album feels more realized somehow.
I saw these tours back in the day, Dio was so awesome with Viv Campbell.

If was such an odd choice for Viv as a first solo record, almost a Blues parody, that Gary Moore influence coming through.

Haven't heard that David but I'm curious now.
Any fans of Dream Evil? Never had that one and am thinking about buying it.

^ Check the youtube files before you buy, it is very unlike his beautiful hard rock days, and the solo work is almost negligible. I think his most thrilling work was with Sweet Savage, but I guess you can't go backward.

Dio's best vocal performance was definitely in Holy Diver, but the best record ever made with Dio at the helm is prolly Rising. Gotta go with Holy Diver cause it's the underdog right now

'Mob Rules' - I can't explain why, but this album KILLS 'Heaven And Hell' for me. And better than any Rainbow or Dio album at that
