When a judge decides to withhold information from them are they not indeed trying to direct their verdict?

Speaking personally, I was about to be a jury member a few years ago on a statutory rape case.  I can see no valid reason why I should not have heard everything....

? There's plenty of times evidence is withheld for being irrelevant or illicitly obtained. I don't see what the issue with that is.

Jury service is hard work.   Most people take it seriously.   And in court sometimes a jurymember's best friend is the judge, as neither the prosecutor or defender really wants to talk to you and they certainly don't want you talking to the clients.   So if you have a question or problem, the judge is the only one to go to.   If he or she trusts me enough to decide a case, I trust them enough to use proper judgment about what is withheld.

I want to know, in fact the American people deserve, the whole truth about the assassination of John Kennedy.   But when it comes to crimes against private citizens, I don't necessarily need to know every single piece of information, especially if it does not pertain to the deliberation of a given case.
