Poll No. 1

The Eagles were a support act to Tull in the early 70s. Many believe they were inspired by the Tull song "We Used to Know" and come up with "Hotel California" many years later. Maybe, Maybe not. But there is a definite resemblance. Which do you prefer?

I only hear a vague resemblance. The Tull one is in 3/4 time.

Definitely. Have a listen to both, hum We Used to Know then hum Hotel Calfornia. Then hum the guitar solos (if you can) and then you'll say "Hmmm, they are close cousins aren't they?"

I prefer "We Used to Know" and the album Stand Up is greatly underappreciated. Although the live acoustic version of "Hotel California" from Hell Freezes Over is excellent.

I really like Stand Up so went with Tull , but that is probably the Eagles best lp.
In all honesty, until that was pointed out to me some years back I never noticed the similarity.
There are only so many basic chord structures and basic patterns in rock so it's inevitable that once in a while something like that is going to happen.

Just revisiting an old poll that has now become a talking point as of today.
