both vocalists Whos impact on other musicians often larger then you migth think of. Not often talked of instinctivly as influentual, but are non-the-less hugely influencual on various vocalists inside prog and also Heavy metal, punk and or maybe even pop.
Both influentual to large part of the mosr shocking and absurd section of Music, from Alice Cooper to Marillion, Prodigy (they sampled Arthur Brown)and other bands.
Both have a distinct operatic, expressive style of singing. Who appeals most for You.

The lyrics of Hammill sung by Brown
From a musical viewpoint then it's gotta be the man who used to set fire to his head.

Dearly love what both of these amazing musicians do, but, for me, it's gotta be Pete

Hammill, but he is an acquired taste, and that's an understatement.

Fool's Mate alone is better then all Brown has ever done, though I must say I like the Crazy World of.

Can't stand Hamill's vocals, but Arthur is a legend.
I've seen him a few times in Whitby and he's really nice to chat to.

Now that's a matchup. I'll give a slight edge to Arthur because He's a bit more experimental - though Hammill was very experimental too, on his first few solo records especially.

He knows what he's doing and where he wants to go, yet he's very cool about it too.

Both have impressive singing abilities, but I vote for Peter due to his more emotional singing.

Chameleon In The Shadow Of The Night is beyond brilliant. Took a lot of patience and pot to appreciate this one back in the day (late 80's / early 90's) but I eventually 'got it'.

Peter Hammill, though I love Brown as well. Hammill is the whole package; singer, songwriter and musician.

Dayvenkirq, Hammill still wins as a singer as IMO he has the best vocal range of the two.

Interesting comparison artists.....I like VDGG but most of the time can't stand Hammill's vocals.
I do like Arthur Brown's voice quality and some of his work but overall Hammill has written better songs over the years.

I chose both. I'm far more familiar with PH (*far* more) and Hammill is my fave singer, but AB is very good too. And AB was such a huge influence on Hammill and the early VdGG that it's likely VdGG would have been a different act than they turned out to be without them seeing AB live in concert early on.
Some VdGG detractors may now feel compelled to blame AB ;-)
