I can't say that I'm a huge fan of live albums but the ones that spring to mind are:

Hawkwind - Space Ritual
Steve Hillage - Live Herald
ELP - Pictures At An Exhibition (the best thing they ever did IMHO)

Oh wow! What do you think of the King Biscuit albums, those would be my favourite of that band.

By the by, I am not per se a fan of live ALBUMS. I do love DVDs, depending on the band in question.  But I love both Gentle Giant DVDs as well as Jethro Tull's Live at Madison Square Garden DVD.  Among pure audio live albums, I really like PoS's 12:5, produced interesting interpretations of the original compositions which very few live albums do, striving as they do to get as close to the original as possible.

Favourite live album of all time, ever: Tangerine Dream ~ Ricochet

Considering that in the live vs studio thread a lot of people picked PF I'm surprised that no one has picked them here,  I've never been disappointed by PF (and related) live album but to pick one I'll go for Pulse as I've played that more times than any other live album. The Winter Tour '74 bonus tracks that they released on the Experience editions of DSotM and WYWH would be favourite if they had been officially released seperately as a double live album...(yeah, I Was There)

Amon Duul II - Live in London - really enjoy that when the mood it right.

Yup - Renaissance - Live at the Royal Bertie Hall (aka King Biscuit Hour Presents) - excellent stuff, I particularly like the mutual respect the rock and orchestra musician have for each other, Rabinowitz's comments seem to be very genuine (if a little surprised perhaps).

PoS - 12:5 ... perhaps the finest "unplugged" live album ever made. In fact I'd echo practically every live album on Andy's list, Sleepy Buildings is a damn good call.

I have a thing for live albums. It used to be The Doors' Absolutely Live, Allman Brothers from the Fillmore, Band of Gypsys, Kiss Alive, Metallica's Binge & Purge, Cream Live and of course The Woodstock album.

Nowadays it's SBB Karlstad for the most. Any prog head worth his salt should own this babyTongue

Nah I have so may faves and that includes the aforementioned Ricochet. What a stunner. I love looking at the art work while I'm listening to it. Very hypnotising and bewitching.

Ah, how could I forget Remember Shakti's Saturday Night in Bombay album!  Not really prog in the strict sense of the word, though it's here on the archives, but a monstrous thing, this one.  Shringar goes from a mesmerising, hypnotic entrance by santoor maestro Shivkumar Sharma to a fiery McLaughlin-led climax.  Yeah, on second thoughts, THAT is actually my favourite live album bar none.  And having seen them perform about 11 years later, I can vouch for the fact that it wasn't a live-recorded-in-the-studio affair Wink.  Those musicians absolutely CAN play like Gods.  *End of fanboy rave*

Love the Renaissance King Biscuit discs as they are in top form and really interact well the orchestra. it also feature's material from the Novella album that was custom made for orchestral arrangements. Also, Dunfords guitar is more up front in the sound mix which is another plus. My only compaint is stage buzzing that was caused by someone's amp not getting along with someone's monitor but that's how live performances go sometimes.

I think these are GREAT suggestions Doug!, though I never (unfortunately) could listen to them, and I think it will be quite tough to find that Triumvirat's on the Internet. But the Le Orme's live album, I've seen it features an exclusive track: Truck Of Fire, I'd like to know your impressions about it.

Truck Of Fire is a winner, Ric, and displays everything that one would like from early 70s Le Orme. The live version on In Concerto is in two parts, part one starting with a stirring section for solo piano, then the whole band kicks in in ernest! Then there is also a very nifty drum solo and some electronic keys work that is quite appealing. Part two is what sounds like the single version with Aldo's singing eloquently as usual. Definitely great Le Orme.

Live at Carnegie Hall is fantastic. Want to give a shout for the Genesis bootleg Live at Zurich 1977. Great sound and even better setlist. If you're a fan of Wind and Wuthering this is a must.

Strawbs: Live in America. A bit harsh sounding but dynamite performances by all. Includes Tony Fernandez and Andy Richards. ( I' m sure about Tony but not Andy though, but it's still a great lineup. This CD includes a version of Ghosts that is a killer!)

Yeah I wonder how AMAZING might have been this Triumvirat gig!... About Le Orme I love them too and it's amazing to open a concert with a piano session, they usually feature a classical style on piano and I think it was the same on here too, wasn't it?. Wondering how damn good this '74 show might have been, thanks my friend! By the way, according to what I have found out on the Internet they have toured a lot but only one Official Bootleg released (Live In Rome 2010) - really disappointing...

I have an old bootleg version of that called "Strawbs Live in London" (!) that opens with "Lay Down".  The concert is from their hardest rocking period and it's certainly rough cut, but the rawness works well for them here, additionally on a super version of "Simple Visions".
