4 stars It bites indeed!

This is a great live album that came at precisely the right time in the band's all-too-short career; namely, at the very end of it (but they did later return). This means that all three of the band's studio albums are represented here which makes this a kind of live "best of" album. But what really makes it "a best of" is that the songs taken from the two first albums sound very much better here than they ever did on the original studio albums. The early albums had a tame and timid Pop sound, but here, in a live setting, these songs really come to life and are performed with such energy and punch that it is hard to think it is the same band and the same songs. It is also the case that they have chosen very good songs to perform which makes this live album in many ways the best introduction to It Bites.

We are witnessing (aurally) a very energetic and passionate performance. From the debut album we get All In Red, Screaming On The Beaches, You'll Never Go To Heaven and Calling All The Heroes, all being much improved here in comparison with their respective studio recordings. From the second album we get only Kiss Like Judas and Yellow Christian, but even these are improved. Their third album, Eat Me In St Louis, is represented by Underneath You Pillow, Murder Of The Planet Earth, The Ice Melts Into Water and Still Too Young To Remember many of which are extended versions. Indeed, the average track length on this live album is considerably longer than on the studio albums.

Highly recommended!
