4 stars If you love Transatlantic, you'll love Kaleidoscope.

"Into the Blue"- The closest "to the edge" they ever got to an epic. Appreciate the choir/string mellotron pads. (that actually pop up throughout the album) Also, some of the heaviest riffs they've put out to date. Reprises of themes. Wraps up beautifully. Everything you want.

"Shine"- A laid-back ballad, that actually has some gorgeous key shifts, and mood changes. I was skeptical at first, when it was released 2 months ago, but as another reviewer wrote, it fits nicely within the context of the album.

"Black as the Sky"- Something totally new for them, structurally. A fast shuffle, that doesn't let up for nearly 7 minutes. Think a Kansas jam on speed. The perfect divider for this album.

"Beyond the Sun"- A relatively short breather of a tune. Hints of Relayer era Steve Howe, complete with verbed out soaring pedal steel guitar, and cello. Relaxing, and dreamy.

"Kaleidoscope" - Where do I start? Too many amazing parts to mention. (although the main chorus theme hints at some Snow themes from Spock's Beard). The second half of this epic has a lot to offer. Gorgeous mini-songs. Insane prog workouts. And of course, the grandiose ending.

And this review was written on my first listen. I can't wait until tomorrow to hear it again.

Four and a half stars.
