The 7 Spheres
5 stars This is definitely my favorite album by Enslaved. They are a black metal band that has come to put progressive leanings into their music, and do it just as well as Opeth, in my opinion. Strong influences are Pink Floyd and King Crimson (and some others I think), and some slight hints of viking folk metal or something of the sort. Isa is definitely the bands breakthrough album in terms of great composing and has a good flow to it. I like how many of the tracks connect like many of the classic prog albums do such as Dark Side of the Moon. I guess some bands just appeal to some people very strongly, and for me one of those bands is definitely Enslaved. I doubt I'll find any metal albums that come close to the excitement many could find in this one. Though I also love Monumension, Below the Lights, Eld, and the two albums they've made after this one, this is I think their best work. Every track from first to last is stunning. Probably one of the easiest masterpiece ratings I'll ever give, along with such classics as Close to the Edge and Dark Side of the Moon. I recommend everyone to try this album if you think you can handle black metal vocals, otherwise you might not like this band overall, though there is certainly a lot of clean vocals as well. 10/10
