4 stars YES or how to start again 3 years after strong discussions in the group, how to give a strong signal to your audience? 1. Going for the One starts rock boogie, as if it were another band; a few moments and the Yes sound comes back, Rick is present again, that reassures the fan section; the eponymous title with Steve as a real frontman from now on who uses many sounds and who sets the tone; the choirs still present and Rick who lets his keyboards swirl, it's already not bad even if seeing 'small' titles can make you cringe 2. Turn of the Century for the title that I fell in love with on first listen; a guitar arpeggio on a vocal that would be a cappella... without, a soft nursery rhyme, Jon also shows whatever people say that he is THE VOICE of YES too; a warm crescendo, a dreamlike rise that vibrates, simple but beautiful; the piano arpeggio comes to intrude for a time and allows us to imagine a cathedral break... we wait, ah it swells a little, but no we won't get it; the sound remains on the same measure, just high enough to keep us alert; YES is no longer the YES we knew before, now we are moving into a more concentrated prog rock, to try our hand at radio editing, to develop our fan base? 3. Parallels... bam the YES of yesteryear comes back, who was afraid? the symphonic tune, the keyboards, the guitar, the bass, the drums, everything is in place... yes I confirm it's more concentrated, quicker to get into the titles, but what a pleasure too; the air in trance with a guitar in front which fills your ears, Rick must have transplanted a 3rd hand, the keyboard is more present; go solo from Steve not the guitar hero, but the guitar who draws faster than his shadow; go keyboards to donf; what to remember... rock; symphonic rock, solos in every corner of the room to have the prog signature, that was also the goal, to show that after the eternal chorus-verse there was a life... prog lives quite simply, not given to everyone, especially not to those who spoke during the intros, who arrived just to listen to the verse, in short another time when respect still existed, where we did not excessively criticize what we personally could not do. .. 4. Wonderous Stories for the radio edit, short, simple, catchy and absolutely not showing what the group could do with its instruments, the paradox; for those who don't know, they look like simple beginners trying their hand... 5. Awaken... that's it, have you changed your face? the title, alone on its face, to see if YES still has some prog blood flowing; ethereal latent intro before the passage of the second, it rises, it swells, come on the nervous guitar break, the notes falling from the neck, it plays loudly, don't forget that we are dealing with heavy stuff, Steve is one guitarists who are the least recognized, the most criticized and I'm sure... the most jealous; he is able to make you go away, forget time like in 'Matrix'... in short a surge of organ notes and Jon takes the helm again, finally the microphone; 6'30 and the prog opening that we were already expecting on the first side; bells, go Oldfield in resonance, oh there the organ, warm, the Mellotron, oh there the crescendo, oh there it smells of the title OMNI (yes well I know that too!!), so the organ, the cascade of notes who fall from the keyboards, ah Rick is there; ah yes ah what else to write when you achieve excellence? a 12/10 of course but it's not expressive enough to express the musical beauty that arrives...Steve, Rick come on let's go; well one of the variations this moment when I enjoy it the most (yes I too don't like using this word vulgurus but that way if a lunch reads me, he will be distraught to see that we were enjoying it well before the time) ; well Jon is back, the dreamlike moment is now imprinted in your head for 'forever'; we arrive at the end and we are treated to more choirs here to increase the emotion even more; the finale will be in a decrescendo like waves turning back suddenly.
