Sepia Dreamer biography
The origins of Sepia Dreamer trace back to 2003, when Jonas Wrenninge, an Honors graduate in Recording Arts at the SAE Institute Stockholm (Sweden) met Sam Brokenshaw, Honors graduate in English Literature and Cultural Criticism at the Cardiff University, (Wales) over the Internet and talked about music and cinema. They were impressed with each other's tastes and decide to form a new metal band. Both founding members exchanged music, settle on the band name, and decided to make theirs an instrumental project, both of them "insistant upon keeping an open mind and avoiding placing unneccesary limits on the music."

At the end of the year, Sepia Dreamer had already recorded their debut album, 'Portraits of Forgotten Memories'. Jonas and Sam both played all the parts of their self-written material. All this process along with the mixing and the producing was carried out from each members' homes at Stockholm and Cardiff.

2007 saw the band's sophomore effort come to light. "The Sublime". The album deals with nature and its terrible beauty. According to the band's website, in "The Sublime", "the band hopes to emulate the awesome, fearful forces and powers of nature". There's no nmeed saying they achieved their goal with a great recording full of atmospheric, dreamy, broad passages, outbursts of energy that sound like storms, moments of quietude which carry the constant yet weak strength of the cold wind.

Nowadays, the regular band members have been joined by session drummer Leon Macey (also of MITHRAS).

The music of Sepia Dreamer can best be described as gloomy, grey-shaded atmospheric instrumental metal, in the same vein of bands like PELICAN, ISIS or AGALLOCH. In their website, the band also cites PORCUPINE TREE, OPETH and progressive-rock founding-fathers KING CRIMSON as inmediate influences.

Why this artist must be listed in www.progarchives.com :
This artist's music is a great example of instrumental-progressive metal; the band doesn't know any boundaries, the band members play multiple instruments creating layers upon layers of atmosphere whilst still being able to produce powerful, heavy riffs that transcend the regular limits of commercial metal.
