4 stars Their darkest release so far.....

This is my second favorite Opeth album, after "Delivirance". On My Arms, Your Hearse their sound is much more death metal than the rest of their albums. Its also a concept album, and its about the anguish of a soul that lives on after his death, but cannot find peace because he sees his beloved being consumed from the inside out by her grief for him.

The opener April Ethernal is such a powerful track and filled with such great metal energy, but its an angry track and that goes for the whole album. I cant think of any other Opeth albums that sounds so angry, but that feeling is what makes this album special in my opinion. Its not so progressive as Morningrise, witch I think is their most progressive album so far, but a more straightforward and hard release. The acoustic parts dont have such big part in this as other Opeth releases and they focus more on their death metal influences.

Demon of the fall is my favorite track on this album and its a killer to hear this one live, the riffs is so powerful and the vocals just gets me every time.

The album also differs from the other Opeth albums with the fact that it doesnt follow the "mellow"-"hard"-"mellow"-"hard" recepie so regligiously, its a more varied flow on this album.

One cool thing is that every song ends with the name of the next song.

This is required listening for prog-metal fans and death metal fans, it gets a strong 4/5 from me. Its almost a classic...
