ABSOLUTION

Muse are certainly some of the most bombastic performers today, and this album is where that pomp propelling their music really starts kicking in. Muse are masters of turning a song in to an anthem, which they do quite often on this album. Seen them pull off this level of energy live is truly a spectacle to behold, and they manage to do it in the studio and out. This album shows a band taking typical song structures and forming a new sort of style, one with more epicness, for lack of a better term. Also, Matt Bellamy is a truly underrated guitarist. He truly shows off a diverse range of styles and remains impressive. This album has something for everyone, from the exciting, riff-based powerhouse of fury that is Stockholm Syndrome to the hauntingly beautiful, Butterflies and Hurricanes. Equally grandiose to the music are the lyrics. The central theme seems to be the apocalypse which is tackled in a very impassioned and terrific manner. This band plays so well and write so well together, I find it surprising that there are only three members.

Another thing that I really like about this album, and Muse in general is how well they fuse progressive influences in to other genres, such as brit-pop and arena rock. This album is most likely their creative peak (although I strongly prefer Origin of Symmetry). If you are someone who wants to try something with an energetic, bombastic crunch while not sacrificing the musicianship and dedication of progressive music, this album should be amongst your priorities to hear in the near future.
