5 stars March Into The Sea EP includes an entire version of a monster epic “March Into The Sea” (a shortened version of which can be found on the album “The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw” under the title “March To The Sea”) and a remix of “Angel Tears” from the Australasia album. I wish this version of Angel Tears were just a bonus track to this EP, as the two tracks have nothing in common. By the way, the remix seems too long and a bit tiresome to my ears, but the principal track of the EP is certainly March Into The Sea. So let's pay attention only to this one.

March Into The Sea is my favourite Pelican’s epic and is a true masterpiece of post-metal in my opinion. It is huge, it is full. It is dark, it is melancholic. Actually, all the riffs in the song are brilliant and enjoyable, the atmosphere is, as a whole, dark and obscure. The epic has its logical order, all the parts are closely related and connected, and the song itself is coherent. Nothing is out of place.

As a matter of fact, March Into The Sea consists of two parts: Part 1 (from the beginning till 12:00) and Part 2 (from 12:00 till the end). Part 1 (the entire March To The Sea) is a huge one, a clearly post-metal thing, with great distorted guitar riffs and beautiful passages. This part is quite speedy and heavy, although few riffs are rather relaxing and positive. At 10:30 there is a powerful, crazy, mad and simply insane climax, which lasts only 1-1,5 minutes and forebodes a tragic final. Part Two is one of most melancholic themes I’ve ever heard; the atmosphere is even darker than the one in the Part 1. Part Two is entirely acoustic, with piano and flutes added to these sad melodies, which cannot get out of my head. A masterpiece.
