4 stars First step in creating symphonic progressive rock in 1969 was this album . Many bands at that period , specially italian , french & german bands did a thanksful job in this prospect . But , for Deep Purple it was their best achievment ever in 40 years . Apparently they got the credit in later stages , but still this album contains one of the best tracks ( April ) as far as progressive concern . In fact April convinced me in 1970 that Classical / Jazz & rock can be matched , if talented artists such as , Roger Glover is involved in the making of this Masterpiece . Yes , in fact 3 songs in this album was enough for this critical rating imoo , Blind , April , Lalena 5 Stars , bird has fown , chasing shadows 3.5 stars . - n.b = Taking into consideration the weakness in this album , still it's more then excellent & essential for all proggers , so , just enjoy it ................................. Tracks Toni .... 4.5 Stars really .
