4 stars 4.5: A very solid album with most of the songs being remarkable well done and most recognized it as the beginning of the history of the best, or at least commercially, band of progressive Rock. I heard the UK version, so the singles are like an extra content to me, being only See Emily play the one that is worth it to be added. This album has a lot of history and mystery at the same time, above all by the characteristic psychedelic and space feel it, given by the Syd Barret personality. For a lot of people is the beginning for the real psychedelia, Syd Barret was an excellent composer, most of the song are written by him, and give them his special style, although the lyrics are not as deep as the future recordings, is in its simplicity where its magic relays. It is very difficult to understand Syd Barret mind, is he really insane? or just pretending? we will never know, only we can appreciate and remember him listening to his music. I must confess, although I loved this record, I never really appreciated the Barret contribution, only after some digging in his history and analysis made about his lyrics, I now loved it still more. Finally, a very good contribution to any progressive collection, however a different version and sound in comparison to the best era of the band.
