A NOD AND A WINK

After some reviews on this site about this album I was thrilled to actually hear it - and my hopes was that it was just as good as the Rajaz album. But that's not the case. It is a pretty good last album - but it lacks of ideas really - excellent instrumental pieces and moody singing don't helps all the way to create a great record.

A Nod and a Wink (4+) A rythm-based beginning with clocks and good flute. After almost 2 minutes there's some acoustic guitar and that lifts the song. The singing is pretty nice like on Rajaz album. After 3 minutes there's some guitar close to rock'n'roll, but all the way with a soft touch. The part after 6 minutes is very nice. After 8 minutes it almost sounds like Pink Floyd for a short while and I don't know what to think about that... Overall a good song and it is also loooong!

Simple pleasures (4+) Begins with percussion, bells and sliding guitar. Nice and smooth and moody. The hammond organ after a couple of minutes isn't fantastic but there's great guitar and nice bass.

A boy´s Life (4+) Acoustic guitar and singing from the start and overall a excellent composition which gives a feel of freedom. The song is really good after 5 minutes.

Fox Hill (2+) I don't like the beginning of this song at all and particular the singing - which shows how difficult it is to write happy songs - then after 2 minutes it turns into a great tune with marvellous electric guitar and then almost bombastic keyboards and hesitating unstructional drums. The albums low point and all the style changes doesn't help in general.

The Miller´s Tale (3+) A calm piece with good flute and acoustic strings and some descent singing. The passage after 2 minutes feels almost boring... like a reprise of other Camel-tunes.

Squigley Fair (2+) Catchy guitar notes and some good drums. I don't like it that much... The flute after a couple of minutes lifts the song and make it enjoyable. The song overall is quite uninteresting, though it tries to play with up and low moodes.

For Today (4+) A very nice piano intro and a good feeling. Nice singing on this last song and great guitars and drums. A really good closing of the record.
