4 stars Genesis is dead.... long live The Watch !

I think this review and The Watch can best be described in my statement over. The music on this album is very much in the landscape of the Peter Gabriel era GENESIS. Maybe more Selling England than Trespass. At the same time; The Watch has also introduced their own style into this GENESIS worship. There is more than one hint of the lyrical landscape of the Italian progressive symphonic scene. PFM is actually a reference here too.

The result is a lush, pastorial and grandious album filled with mellotrons and synths. A dramatic album and a pastorial album at the same time. The time shifts and the mood are perfect. This is lay down and being carried away music. This is how GENESIS would had been today with Peter Gabriel. The vocals of Mr. Simone Rossetti is just superb. The rest of the band too is doing a great job here. The opening track Sound of Sirens pretty much sets the tone for the rest of the album. The masterpiece is the song Berlin, 1936 with it's good lyrics and superb mellotron passages. But I think it is most fair to describe Primitive as one piece of music as the symphonic prog album it is. And it is one piece of music best enjoyed in a dark room with no disturbances of any sorts.

For those of us into GENESIS, this album is the answer to our prayers. Unfortunate, there is not any outstanding piece of music on this album. But it is still of a very high standard and recommended. Describe it as an updated version of GENESIS if you want. I just call it superb music.
