3 stars I haven't seen the film, I don't know Pivio (but I know Aldo De Scalzi) but ... This album is really interesting!

This CD is the O.S.T. of the film 'L'Odore Della Notte' (eng: 'The Smell Of The Night'), a film by Claudio Caligari. I don't see the film but the plot is as follows:

'Enterprises of a criminal gang of youths of the suburbs, said dell'Arancia Meccanica in Rome at the end of the 70s, reaches its climax when the armed struggle: the ex-cop Remo (Valerio Mastandrea) and his friends township make their private war against those who have had the easy life, but, given the lack of strategy and ideas, a war intended to repetition and inevitable defeat'. (part of recension from: www.mymovies.it/dizionario/recensione.asp? id=16828).

So this is a noir in the same field of 'Milano Calibro 9' with Osanna's OST. 'L'Odore Della Notte' was declared:'This fil was recognized for 'national interest' from the entertainment department of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers'.

This film is produced by Marco Risi and Maurizio Tedesco (for Sorpasso Film) and Luigi and Aurelio De Laurentis (descendants of the mythical Dino De Laurentis). Also this film was in competition at '55th Venice Film Festival'

This film is the adaption of Guido Sacchettini's book 'Le Notti Di Arancia Meccanica' (Tullio Pironti Editore) (eng: 'Nights of A Clockwork Orange').

Musically the O.S.T. is not easy to assign in a specific genre. In my opinion it is a mix of post rock, Vangelis, Jazz and Trance Music. Do not think that there are connections with Picchio dal Pozzo because here plays Aldo De Scalzi. Pivio De Scalzi (no relation with Aldo) is a O.S.T. writer who joined with Aldo to produce OST's.

As I said, it is very difficult to categorize this OST. I tend to describe it as I wrote above, even if he should be included (as long as the genre exists) in Trance Prog. We must not seek comparisons with Goblins or Vangelis (or with the experiment of Osanna) because in this O.S.T. are the synths (also applied to guitars) to be the protagonists, even if the music is unquestionably Rock. However, the Trance component wins.It is not difficult to listen (but sounds tensdono cooked the brain) because (thankfully) is not an OST very long.

Frankly, I had to listen many times this OST to understand what the music says. Basically the music is also very Dark. Honestly the only band that I can bring to Pivio & Aldo De Scalzi is Oniric, another Italian band.
