5 stars As my dad spent too much time listening to Jethro Tull and singing the same lyric repeated over and over again for many years, I've always been put off by listening to their work myself. However I make a major exception for Thick as a Brick. Sections of the epic concept blend seamlessly into one another and its not always easy to pick out where it could be split into smaller tracks. Despite this there isn't a single point where a particular arrangement feels like its outstaying its welcome for too long - something I do occasionally take issue with for the likes of Pink Floyd and Genesis suites, and more recently Steven Wilson's work. It's a multi-layered, multi-instrument rollercoaster, encompassing folk and celtic rhythms and there isn't one of the 43 minutes of the brilliant epic that could be taken away without leaving it missing part of its charm.
