Heart of the Matter
3 stars German keyboardist, composer & electronic wizard Edgar Froese was, of course, founding member and long-term leader of the notorious collective of experimentalists Tangerine Dream. Let us be clear, this album sounds so obviously connected to the T.D. works of the era (mid-seventies) that, if you heard and dislike, e.g., "Rubycon", then there is probably nothing for you in "Aqua" either.

The sonic materials assembled here for listener's immersion in an acuatic, and very relaxed world, are so typical of the period, that you barely may have other choice than: a) turn yourself in and enjoy, or b) run away for some more rocking listen. Analog sequencers mutating subtle and gradually signature, accent and dynamics. Also layered synths spread over unendless droning. Fantastic sense of cohesion in the long-scale form. Sensational taste for harmony, too. A perception of water unlike any liquid can possibly provide.
