FLOATING

Though "Inside" was a start of something new for Eloy, taking the Space Rock element into their sound and shaping it to fit them, this album does it much better than the album previous. This is a great production, some timeless mucic, and has some very cool beats and rhythms to the songs. Franks singing is much better on this album, much more upfront and much more sense of tone. The instruments and the players have much more energy than the previous record, and it really shows because this is near a masterpiece recording. "Inside" did start the new Eloy sound, but "Floating" is one step ahead.

"Floating" is a cool instrumental, awesome and strong opener. There are vocals, but not lyrics, only "oh" throughtout one passage of the song. This is a great jam, with some awesome bassline and keyboard part. The guitar is excellent, and the drums are much more refined than the previous record. "The Light from Deep darkness" is the epic of this album, and its excellent. It's a little less Floyd sounding than the previous epic from the last album, "Land of Nobody" because the lyrics are much better, and the vocals are much more understandable than the last album. The instruments are excellent for this song, with some great beats that are just near perfection to me. The vocals are excellent for this song, which definatly suprise me, and Frank adds emotion to this song when he sings it. The organs are excellent in this song, and the keyboard solo is to die for because of how melodic it is. "Castle in the Air" starts off with an odd and slightly annoying riff, but does seem to get better as it goes on. It's not prime cut matieral from the album, but it's still not a bad song, and very far from the worst, though the riffs and the music are slightly subpar, but very close to par. The bass solo is very odd and funky sound, but I love it. "Plastic Girl" might be my least favorite, though the synthesizer and organs are excellent, I just don't find this song in any way attractive to me, I just can't get into it. The worst cut from the album because of its unattractive nature. The lyrics are slightly odd, but I do think they are some good lyrics considering the song, but too much about love I guess. "Madhouse" has some good soloing to me, and its a very good closer. The bassline is a standout, and the drums are definatly to die for if you are a drum fan, at least from my standpoint. It's just a very uplifting song with some good lyrics and excellent vocals form Frank.

This may not be the best Eloy album that I have ever heard (some awesome ones in mid-late 1970s and some great ones in the early 1980's). This is a big imrpovement from the last two albums, but not a masterpiece. 4 stars is perfect for this album.
