THICK AS A BRICK

Thick as a Brick is the Fifth Studio Album by British Band Jethro Tull, which released in March of 1972. The entire album is one song split into 2 for each side of the record, so the song comes out to about 44 minutes long. This album has great instrumentation and structure, the song just keeps getting more exciting as it goes along, so your never really bored with it, the album has that classic Jethro Tull medieval sound thanks to Ian Anderson's flute playing, and John Evans, organ, piano, and harpsichord playing. The song is driven by a solid foundation, thanks to Barriemore Barlow's drum playing, and Jeffery Hammond's bass playing. The album is a concept album of course, it is one song after all, Ian Anderson really tried to out prog everyone with this album, mainly because he was upset about the idea that Aqualung is a concept album. The song is about a young boy who grows up to see 2 career paths, a solider or an artist, he once rebelled against society, that is one of the main focuses of this album is to criticize society, class structures, and morals of the establishment. But changes and chooses to become a solider before assimilating back into society when hes done, following the exact same life as his father. The album has a message and I think it tells it really well, the album is a great listen throughout, and its a classic in the genre. I basically have no choice but to give it a 5/5 . Essential album in any progressive rock collection.
