2 stars Literally the most boring album I've ever heard.

Like, wow. I only liked two tracks from it. And I would considerate myself a moderate Genesis fan (like a good portion of their music, dislike a good portion of their music). With The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway being a big disappointment for me (since I was expecting something much better from a 4.31 score album), I decided to keep going on with their discography, which lead me to A Trick Of The Tail.

This album is the first without Peter Gabriel and his absence really shows. Songs don't have that pompous and theatrical feel to them but rather feel more serious. If you want me to be honest I prefer the first type of song a million times more. It feels much more alive, memorable and distinguishable, but then again that's purely subjective.

So, which were the two tracks that I liked? They were the first two. Which of course made me think it was going to be a phenomenal album. Dance On A Volcano is the most dynamic song in the album, featuring a constantly- changing theme with strong jazz influences, it works very well as an opener. As for Entangled, I'm mostly in love with it because of the last two minutes. They're very reminiscent of the ending sliding guitar of Yes' The Gates Of Delirium, which is absolutely beautiful.

The other tracks, however, were very un memorable for me. The only thing I properly remember is that Los Endos is a pretty solid instrumental. The album in general features strong jazz influence, although you can definitely tell the symphonic aspect of the band diminished just a little. I simply didn't enjoy this album much, and was expecting more. Still recommend you to check it out because nonetheless, musicianship is top-notch. Two Stars!
