4 stars So, this is the one that most fans seem to hate, and really i dont know why, this is Dream Theater at their song writing peak, sure there is a couple of wierd sounding songs and one or two fillers but dont forget this release features one of the greatest live songs on any Dream Theater setlist, TRIAL OF TEARS, the final 13 minutes of this album features this beyond epic track, other standout songs include the opener NEW MILLENNIUM, PERUVIAN SKIES, HELL'S KITCHEN, the awsome LINES IN THE SAND and the beautiful ANNA LEE. While i respect that John and Mike were trying to experiment with lyrics on this album making them a bit more personal or 'with the times' than past DT albums there was 2 songs that i didnt really think much of BURNING IN MY SOUL and JUST LET ME BREATHE and while they were quite catchy just didnt really do anything for me;

New Millennium - 9/10 You Not Me - 7/10 Peruvian Skies - 8/10 Hollow Years - 9/10 Burning My Soul - 6/10 Hell's Kitchen - 10/10 Lines in the Sand - 10/10 Take Away My Pain- 9/10 Just Let Me Breathe - 5/10 Anna Lee - 10/10 Trial of Tears - 10/10

My Conclusion? while not their strongest still a great album, great songwriting, great musicmanship great everything, just falls short of a masterpiece.
