4 stars I have always thought of this album as being in the shadows of great albums from other symphonic prog bands. But nonetheless, "Scheherazade and Other Stories" is a strong output from Renaissance. This is the only album I have from Annie Haslam and Co. but it sure made me notice that there are indeed other forces in the symphonic arena. "A Trip to the Fair" opens things off with inviting keyboard riffs and then develops into a catchy, pleasant tune. It is easily the best song on the album, in my opinion. "The Vultures Fly High" is a short, yet rocking tune that is equally as catchy as "A Trip to the Fair". "Ocean Gypsy" then starts and gives the album a new direction. Softer and calmer, this song slows the pace of the album just in time for the 24 minute epic, "Song of Scheherazade". Rather than flowing smoothly, "SoS" is divided into 9 separate "songs" that have their own personalities, and ultimately, make up a fine song, but nothing too spectacular. Overall, "Scheherazade and Other Stories" is worthy of being in any collection but is far from a masterpiece. 4 stars suits this album quite fine.

1. "A Trip to the Fair" - 9/10

2. "The Vultures Fly High" - 8/10

3. "Ocean Gypsy" - 8/10

4. "Song of Scheherazade" - 8/10

33/4 = 82.5% = 4 stars
