4 stars This is NOT a bad album! It may not be AQUALUNG of THICK AS A BRICK, but I enjoy it much more than the weak WARCHILD or the confusing PASSION PLAY. It has some great rocking tracks such as "Quiz Kid", and "Big Dipper", as well as the classic bluesy rip-snortin' "Taxi Grab". Also solid tracks are "Crazed Institution", "From a Deadbeat to an Old Greaser", "Big Dipper", and "Chequered Flag". For myself, the only stinkers on here are "Salamander" which is "Cold Wind to Valhalla" part 2, and "Bad Eyed and Loveless" which sinks like a boring stone. Ugly cover? Yep. Weak story? Yep. But the songs are what matters, and this album holds together very well. A good 4 star effort before Ian took on some more serious folk rock with the next few albums. (The remaster seems to have much better sound than the original and has 2 extra acceptbale songs, good but nothing too special).
