COME TASTE THE BAND

If this album had been recorded under another name than Deep Purple, I seriously doubt a record label would had even touched it even with a bargepole. The music here is pretty spectacular devoid of any quality. It is a pity that this is the only Tommy Bolin era Deep Purple album.

Where do I start ? The music here is a bluesy funk rock hard rock blend. In other words, the worst of the 1970s. David Coverdale does a decent job on material which is the worst he ever had to deal with. Ian Paice is a shadow of his former self. John Lord.......... Where is John Lord ? This is not John Lord as I know him. Glenn Hughes is blowing hot and cold. Tommy Bolin is the only one surviving this album with some dignity left. Unfortunate, he passed away soon after.

The quality of the songs is something expected from a pub band dabbling into writing in addition to their usual set of cover versions. This is not what I had expected from Deep Purple. Mountains high, valleys low. This album is the valley floor. Besides of Tommy Bolin, there is nothing good to be said about this album.
