4 stars Listening to and reviewing Gong albums is a huge challenge if you are a straight, dull man like myself.

Cynically speaking, the first installment of the Flying Teapot trilogy, this album, is very simple basic children rhymes with some added avant-garde fusion and flimsy female voices. That is what this album is in the universe of cynics.

But speaking as a music lover........ well, this album is still basic children rhymes like pop melodies with avant-garde fusion and flimsy female voices added. Remove some swear words, play this music in a kindergarten and you will have the attention and admiration from kids in the age group 18 months to 6 years old. They will love this album.

I also rate this album. Hence, I am a kid in a grown up man's body. Well.... I would not put it like that...... So why do I rate it ? The main positive thing about this album is the good songs and the naive, weird music here. Both the avant-garde fusion stuff here and the more straight children rhyme like pop stuff here is very good. This album is a concept album and as a good concept album as the best ones from the symphonic prog scene. The structure of this album seems both intelligent and well crafted. In short; this album is everything but naive.

I think this album has all the hallmarks of a great album. Yes, it has some flaws and the pop stuff here irks me. But the main body of this album is really great. Hence, I am falling down on a weak four stars. A thoroughly recommended album, in other words.
