TAKING TIGER MOUNTAIN (BY STRATEGY)

On this outing ENO tries his hand at rock as a solo artist. After his departure from ROXY MUSIC ENO seemed determined to be taken seriously as an artist.This release,as well as HERE COME THE WARM JETS,ANOTHER GREEN WORLD and BEFORE AND AFTER SCIENCE are all lp's with actual songs on them. The whiz bang gimicks of his early synth work has been replaced with the musicianship that the instrument deserves. ENO has always been a trend setter and pioneer in the world of electronica. On this album ENO(along with former ROXY band mate PHIL MANZANERA and SOFT MACHINE's ROBERT WYATT)shows his ability to create music that while not exactly mainsteam,is quite listenable and also has many of the rock elements in tact.For those that have a hard time with ENO's ambient pieces this, and the above mentioned albums maybe more to your liking.I would rate this one 4 1/2 stars.
