4 stars Colin MASSON is a founder member of the English group The MORRIGAN' S, (1985-2002) and multi-instrumentalist of his state. "The Mad Monk and the Mountain" is her second solo album, the first "Isle of Eight" is appeared in 2001. To make a short history, "The Mad Monk and the Mountain" is a pearl hidden, so well hidden that I would have missed if I would not have stayed in a review appeared on the web.

Music is made up of several elements folk music in dramatic style where emotion takes a big place. You should not see in this comment that "The Mad Monk and the Mountain" is discouraging, on the contrary. The album is greatly instrumental, two titles only are sung. Hake is accompanied by her longstanding accomplice, Cathy ALEXANDER (THE MORRIGAN' S) in keyboards and in song. Speaking about song, its voice is splendid, to listen to " The Ends of the Earth " you are going to understand. The acoustical and especially electrical guitar is the instrument favoured of the album. Side influences, it is possible to note a bit of THE MORRIGAN' S and GRYPHON here and there and also Mike OLDFIELD over very short instant. The style of Colin MASSON is unique besides each of titles show its compositor's big talent.

I can only recommend you "The Mad Monk and the Mountain", very warmly. As I said it earlier, this album is unique. I have now to flashback and to discover "Isle of Eight".
