OPEN YOUR EYES

Their last stab at commercial success, a cynical and weak effort that makes the Rabin years look like pure art for art's sake. The title track actually is appealing power pop with nice vocal harmonies and a strong bass line, but most of the rest of the album is dreck. Embarassing stuff, and really disappointing seeing as how it came on the heels of the encouraging "Keys to Ascension" material. That made it look like classic Yes was back, but Wakeman split and Squire's club-buddy Sherwood came in as a cheap Rabin knock-off. Squire's desire to be "hip" and commercially relevant betrays the Yes ethos.
