4 stars Steve's guitar virtuosity shines in this collection of varied tunes, especially those employing classical guitar nuance. (Although its "Black Guitar" (Les Paul, I presume) electrical work is exceptional as usual) I've listened to this album (now a CD, i must confess) several dozen times - perhaps more. (And saw him supporting the album on tour) I "hear" something different each time, although i do not really wish to decipher Hackett's lyrical eccentricity.

'Noir' can take you many places, as does 'Cured (1981)', and that is it's true magic. There are a few tracks, namely 'Sierra Quemada', 'Paint Your Picture', 'Walking Away From Rainbows', 'There Are Many Sides To The Night' that are absolute must-haves for Hacketeers, and those many out there that simply enjoy fine guitar playing. 'Guitar Noir' gets 5-stars w/o 'Vampyre' ,' Lost In Your Eyes', & 'Little America'. They tend to receive the SKIP button treatment. The instrumental overlay is done to virtual perfection - a great studio mix. I hope to hear a few tunes from 'Noir' when I see him on his '05 tour.
