THE UNKNOWN

Over the last few years Chris Squire (Bass and Vocals), Billy Sherwood (Guitars, Keyboards and Vocals) and Jay Shellen (Drums and Percussion) have built up the 'Conspiracy Project' and, with the contribution of J.Haun, J.Berliant and M.Sherwood, in 2003, in the Californian Studios 'The Office', they have recorded the positive, valuable album 'The Unknown'. It is made up of nine tracks all characterized by originality, melodic freshness (in the parts sung by Squire and Sherwood) and by a strong, deep, dazzling backsound, utmost interesting, particular and unique, and very accurate arrangements, that show a remarkable technical-instrumental level, as well as an appreciable stylistic sensitivity, that stand out in the current - and not particularly exciting - 'progressive' panorama. In conclusion - luckily - the album 'The Unknown' has very little to do with the 'Conspiracy Project' previous one, with the same name 'Conspiracy', released in 2000. Moreover, 'The Unknown' includes two tracks that in my opinion are to be considered two authentic masterpieces: the first, 'New World' (7:22) (with Squire's exceptional, stunning bass performance) and the second, 'The Unknown' (11:21) that gives the name to the whole album, a work marked by a rich and complex structure and by an unexpected, startling development. An excellent addition to any progressive music collection: four stars.
