2000 GURUS

I happened to get a copy of this from my local library. I'm not too familiar with Guru Guru so it's hard to put it in any sort of context.

The general tone of the album is fluid, languid, and hypnotic. The rhythm section locks on to some grooves and stays in them. On top are a flowing assortment of guitar, horns, voices, and environmental sounds like insects. Some tracks sound a little like Discpline era King Crimson in their mellower moments. Others are hypnotic jazzy compositions, while some have a primitive bluesy or folk sound. It's interesting how these songs seem to draw on very old forms in a way that is identifiable if you listen to world folk music, but doesn't sound imitative. It reminds me, in that respect, of Brian Eno and Jon Hassel's albums, or Can's Ethnography stuff.

Sound quality is very good. I think this is a good album and I enjoy listening to it.
