3 stars Djam Karet (if anyone can phonetically give the pronunciation of this i would appreciate it) are a musical genre all of their own. The nearest i can liken them to is King Crimson meets Pink Floyd meets The Ozrics but this is only for small elements from those bands and they don't really sound like any one of them. For The Devouring the drums are very flat and dry sounding but the guitars roar and the synth textures fill out the sound nicely. My only other problem with this album is the track running order. Night of the Mexican Goat Sucker is by far the most aggressive track here and starts the album, Forbidden By Rule is another relatively aggressive track, slighly less so than its predecessor and this trend continues throughout the whole album getting more and more mellow as it continues until we get to the final track, which is great in its own right, and the music is down to a snails pace which has taken all the dynamic and pace out of the album. Good music but play the tracks randomly if you don't want to fall asleep.
