FABRIZIO DE ANDRÉ + PFM IN CONCERTO VOL. 2

The album "Fabrizio De André + PFM In Concerto Vol. 1" (1979) had (and still has) a great success in Italy, and a year later the record company decided to release recordings from the same shows as Vol. 2. Franz Di Cioccio, PFM drummer, recalled that Fabrizio De Andrè and the band prepared together about 30 songs. Albums, Vol. 1 and 2, include only 17 ("Presentazione" from this album is only a presentation of musicians). Probably some other songs have been recorded during that tour and will see the light of day, who knows.

Besides great De André talents and his distinctive voice the album shows, as well, PFM versatility and delicate attitude to singing poetry.

Songs from the album "Rimini" (1978), "Avventura a Durango", "Sally" and ""Rimini" have nice melodies and sound very close to their originals. "Avventura a Durango" is a cover of Bob Dylan's "Romance in Durango" with Fabrizio's Italian lyrics.

"Via del Campo", titled after the name of the street in Genoa, Fabrizio's home town, is a nostalgic ballad and one of the most beautiful FDA songs ever, especially in PFM arrangements.

Closing songs, "Maria nella bottega del falegname" ("Mary in a Joiner's Shop") and "Il Testamento di Tito" ("Titus' Will") originally appeared on FDA concept album "La buona novella", 1970. PFM (then I QUELLI) participated in recording process as session musicians. For 1979 tour new arrangements of these 2 songs were made. There are very nice keyboard solos in "Maria nella bottega del falegname". "Il Testamento di Tito" is album's most powerful and dramatic track.

Those who can speak Italian can appreciate the quality of Fabrizio De André poetry. Don't worry if you can't - like somebody said: "I'm ready to listen to his voice even if he will read the telephone book".

Like its predecessor, Vol.1, this album is a good addition to any De André or PFM collection. For those, who interested, I can also highly recommend his DVD "Fabrizio De André. In concerto", recorded during Faber's last tour in 1998 and released in 2004 by BMG Italy.
