2 stars A one great song album from Black Sabbath.

Gone is Ozzy and the late Ronnie James Dio takes the microphone. And most of the album too. His voice is among the two positives from this album. This album also proves how devastating his recent passing was for the scene. His vocals is excellent. The other positive here is the eight minutes long The Sign of the Southern Cross which is a doomy, sludgy song. The type of tracks Black Sabbath should had stucked to throughout, in my view. The live verision of The Sign of the Southern Cross (as a medley with Heaven & Hell) is better than the studio version as delivered here, though. But the version here is still a great, great song.

The rest of the album is pretty dire. The title track is decent. The rest is just a vain attempt to keep up with the Joneses in the metal scene. Horrible radio friendly tracks which just sounds outdated today. But a half star to Dio and the The Sign of the Southern Cross. The rest is just not good enough.

2.5 stars
