THERE'S THE RUB

There's The Rub is a great album. It was Wishbone Ash's fifth album and the first five are my personal favourites by the band. Much of the typical Ash style is here throughout. New guitarist Laurie Wisefield also brings in a different atmosphere and does a superb job taking over from Ted Turner who jumped ship after the last album. As another reviewer said, he was a major part of the band's creative direction for several years to come. I also believe his influence helped to produce some good releases such as "New England" in the later half of the seventies. But this was the best album with him on board. The guitar playing is wonderful. And as usual, a good bit of variety is there. "Silver Shoes" is a nice intro which has a slight West Coast feel. Other fine moments include the beautiful "Persephone", and a somewhat tradtional sounding English piece which goes by the name of "Lady Jay". "Hometown" for me is the best of the rock and roll songs and the progressive instrumental "F.U.B.B" at the end is also a cracker. This would be a worthy addition for your collection.
