A SAUCERFUL OF SECRETS

Saucerful of Secrets is the second and last album with Syd Barrett still in the band. Like the previous, this album is especially psychedelic and experimental. But this also sees the departure of some of Barrett's happy and English idiosyncrasies that flowed through Piper. As a result, this is much more serious and darker of an album. Whether or not this is good or bad I'm not sure of, as I'm simply not a fan of the Barett-led Pink Floyd.

'Let There Be More Light' has the psychedelic feel and the beginning is great, but the rest of the song is prone to the same annoying noodling that plagued Piper.

'Remember A Day' has some nice relaxing vocal melodies from Syd, but is otherwise uninteresting.

'Set the Control For the Heart of the Sun' is another psychedelic song. It's relaxing and atmospheric, but still nothing special.

'Corporal Clegg' sounds similar to Sgt. Peppers, except this hurts my ears. A kazoo is innovative I guess, but annoying.

The title track is a complete mess just like 'Interstellar Overdrive' was on Piper. It's just annoying noodling that does nothing for these ears.

'See-Saw' and 'Jugband Blues' are closer in the style of Piper, being upbeat and happy. But again, these are nothing special.

The only good thing about this album is the fact that its Barrett's last. Sorry to be harsh, but this is not the Floyd I know and love.
