DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED

There’s no doubt that this album is essential, but it is not a masterpiece in my opinion. There are a great variety of moods created perfectly, and most songs shift direction easily, and along with an orchestral orientation, give a progressive element. But the music isn’t complex enough for the devoted prog listener, due to fairly simple drumbeats and no real mergence of a variety of instruments. However, this was certainly one of its kind, performing a giant leap in to the development of the magical world of 70’s prog.

The album is beautiful to listen to, the melodies are smooth, accompanied by the wonderful Justin Hayward, soothing and flowing. My favourite track is ‘The Afternoon: Forever Afternoon’, with a mood-changing transition masked by an orchestral interlude and flute. ‘Evening’ and ‘Night’ are classic tracks, and always a delight to listen to.

Overall, this album is a stunner, and one of the best albums to emerge from the 60s. Every track is a pure delight and is a must have for your collection.
