5 stars This is an excellent prog album. The sound is very raw and aggressive, almost brutal from time to time. The whole atmosphere is dark and obsessive. Hammill`s vocals are superb, varying from a whisper to strong and colourful roaring. David Jackson`s rough saxophones give this record it`s wild mood. "Meurglys III" is a very long and interesting piece. There are some reggae influences in it (believe it or not!), and Hammill`s guitar sings like an angel. There are no weak songs in the album. Check out also "Still life" and "Godbluff", all of these VDGG albums are prog classics.
