4 stars 'Deer Twilight' is the second album by a Dutch one man's band Cold Body Radiation. Like Alcest, Cold Body Radiation is mixing post-metal with shoegaze and black metal, other significant influences include ambient and post-rock.

The music of Cold Body Radiation is rather moody and atmospheric than heavy, accented more on slow introspection than on terrorizing black metal shrieks or metal styled playing. Vocals on this album are rather blurred with noisy texture and almost inaudible. With shoegaze noises, mix of deep shrieks, whispers and clean vocals, rare but significant acoustic guitar passages, sometimes appearing heavy drums and ambient moments, this album creates a great atmosphere which should work very well for those who love shoegaze, post-metal or both.

The album opens with mellow instrumental 'Deer Twilight' which lasts almost for 7 minutes, it is one of the highlights here. Whilst 'Make Believe', the second track, continues slow mood with mellow intro, then it rolls into more shoegaze direction, which would be main on this record. 'Shimmer' is probably one of the best song post-metal ever had. Stunning mellow intro, great melody overruned with inconherent whispers and screams, well, it's better to listen to it than to read any descriptions. 'Concept' is a heavier thing here, the closest to black metal song on this record. Album leaves us with another great atmospheric song 'Yes, Maybe the Stars', which is full of excellent keyboard work and setting-the-mood sounds of owl's hooting.

Sad, beautiful and atmospheric, it is a great album, recommended especially for Alcest fans. So don't miss it!
