PIECE OF MIND

The album opens with "Where Eagles Dare", a mid paced song, reference to a war movie with Clint Eastwood. "Revelations" shows the great songwriting and performance of Bruce Dickinson - a semi-ballad song, very melodic. "Flight Of Icarus" is the first hit of the album (the second one being "The Trooper"), although it is not fast paced like almost every Maiden hit and is more in the vein of the songs that would finally end up on "Somewhere In Time". "The Trooper" is classic Maiden - fast, heavy, catchy. "Still Life" starts with some backwards speaking (the devil's tongue no?), and a very mellow intro. This is the typical Murray/Harris composition: beautiful intro... and usually very fast paced riffing for the rest of the song. "Quest For Fire" is another reference to a movie - very catchy song, almost funny. The two songs that are really weak on this album are "Die With Your Boots On" and "Sun And Steel" - not very original and below average metal songs. "To Tame A Land" is a great closer - very epic with a mellow intro, catchy lyrics, and amazing guitar work.
