3 stars Quite an album, this one.

If anything, this band is good as a live experience.

Be warned, however: if you get annoyed with a lot of jamming, you may not enjoy this album, and it's what keeps it from becoming a 4 star album to me.

The first and third songs are very fast-paced and repeat the same themes and motifs quite often, and this repetition can get boring... there is very little evolution within the songs themselves. There is a lot of start-stop activity - in the middle of the third song, one of the musicans even has to yell "it's not over yet" when the crowd starts clapping at what they believe to be is the end. However, the musicianship is top-notch and the solos are a pleasure to listen to.

The second song is a slow break between the other two and is what keeps this album from totally losing itself in a mire of virtuosity. I like the ambient, relaxing music they evoke with this song.

In the end... only three stars. Get it for the virtuosity of the musicians, because that itself is mind-boggling... but don't get it if you're looking for a lot of original ideas, because there are only a few, repeated over and over.
