3 stars "Collaborator" is just like the title implies a musical collaboration between DJAM KARET and some friends and guest musicians. The guest musicians sent Djam Karet some incomplete musical fragments on DAT, and DJAM KARET put them together and more sounds and textures to the material. The musicians who sent Djam Karet their music was Marc Anderson, Jeff Greinke, Walter Holland, Loren Nerell, Steve Roach, Kit Watkins (HAPPY THE MAN, CAMEL) and Carl Weingarten. The final result is atmospheric, ambient electronic music, which has the typical DJAM KARET sound. The album became "#10 Album Of 1994" in Deep Listenings magazine. This isn't a real DJAM KARET album but everyone who's familiar with the more ambient DJAM KARET will surely like this CD as well.

1 stars This one if you look at the date, came in between the two period of Djam and right in the middle of that six year hibernation (I don't really know the story and the ins and outs of the band) and this is a real sleeper. A real bore , maybe delicate and subtle but if those are present here , they are totally lost on me as I yanwed and returned to my daydream and soon lead me to a nap that led me directly into slumber which in turn provoked a slice of paradoxical sleep and finally comatosed me into death in boredom. Just kidding but avoid this, you won't regret it.

4 stars I guess it's only natural a band that rarely plays far from home would try a long distance collaboration experiment. They had some friends from around the country make digital audio tape recordings in their own studios and mail it to Djam Karet for completion. The partners I'm familiar with are Kit Watkins (of Happy The Man), Marc Anderson (works with Steve Tibbetts), and Steve Roach (of Steve Roach).

Easily Djam's most ambient offering in the discography. The music reminds me a bit of Eno's Musics For Filmseses, Filmsesai?!?

3 stars If you like your ambient dark, this is the album for you. One look at the album and song titles is enough to tell the listener what is going on with the music. I like that - no mystery, no wasted thought.

This is actually the album that was my gateway to contemporary ambient music. It showed me that it could be cool - if heavy rockers like Djam Karet were into making this stuff I could be into listening to it. I do wish I was more familiar with Kit Watkins - his prog career started with so much potential, I can't help but wonder where his muse took him after shedding Happy the Man and Camel.

This one is certainly for ambient fans and hardcore Karet listeners that are up for a change of pace from their usual recordings.
