3 stars To my surprise I just discovered that the main Prog Andaluz band Triana has moved to the genre Symphonic Prog. Well, when you listen to this compilation you will experience that Triana shows different musical faces: on the first three album they blended symphonic rock with hints from Barclay James Harvest (melodic, warm, sensitive electric guitar and lush vintage keyboards) with the exciting world of the flamenco (guitar, handclapping and a bit wailing Spanish vocals) like in Se De Un Lugar, Sombra Y Luz and Recuerdos De Una Noche. But from the fourth album entiled Encuentro (I bought this LP in the early Eighties in Granada during a holiday in Andalusia, I was really disappointed about it) Triana started to sound more polished and the symphonic prog elements quickly disappeared, in fact their sound turned into a blend of melodic rock, pop and some flamenco elements. So when you buy this compilation be prepared for a Triana thas makes both symphonic prog inspired compositions as pleasant melodic rock (or perhaps prog-related) oriented songs with some tasteful flamenco ingredients but not that exciting as on their first three albums. Fortunately at about half of the track-list is from those albums so the title Historia De La Luz Y De La Sombra (my translation: "history about light and about shadow") has a special, perhaps Freudian inspired meaning! My rating: 3,5 stars.
