L'AURORA DELLE ORME

This album is a collection of LE ORME singles (and probably some previously unreleased songs) from '67 to '70, band's big beat period. Nice, memorable songs, quite typical for the era. For my ears "L'aurora delle Orme" is more listenable than their debut album "Ad Gloriam".

Later reissue, "L'Aurora plus" contains 2 tracks from the 60's, "Blue Rondo a la Turk" (Brubeck) and "Concerto N.3" (Bach), which are good missing link between LE ORME debut album and their first prog effort, "Collage". I always wondered how different are these albums. "Blue Rondo a la Turk" and "Concerto N.3" show band's experiments with progressive sound in the very beginning of their career.

Recommended for those who are familiar with LE ORME classic albums and want to know more about band's roots.

Catchy and interesting compilation of LE ORME's first hits in Italy, that I got together with previous and debut band's album, "Ad Gloriam". With songs spanning from mid-60s to late- 60s the result is unbalanced although individually almost all songs are pleasant and hearable.

The first chords of 'L'aurora' brings some progressive climate but later the song goes pop; it was a hit in Brazil, so I presume it was a hit in Italy and other selected countries. Anyway, vocals with that ORME's characteristic signature are more than blatant.

'Finita la scuola' has the unique band aroma and could be included in further band's works since it sounds ahead of its time. 'Casa mia' shows fine arrangements and vocals, one of the highest moments in this compilation.

'Era un anno fa' is another great moment, with its weird choir a laTHE NICE. 'Tutto passera' becomes very agreeable for being so dated. 'Dovunque andrai' is a typical 60s Italian hard-rock while 'Fiori e colori' displays flowers and colors more tuned with the classical and psychedelic rock songs of the same era.

The same consideration I did for "Ad Gloriam" is valid for "L'Aurora Delle Orme": a necessary work when trailing ISP/RPI story but simply good, even non-essential if one is aiming real progressive albums. Rating: 3.

Le Orme is the only band I've been in contact with that released some sort of a compilation LP after having releasing only one studio album.

As the title of this album tells, this is the dawn of Le Orme. Most of the songs featured here are old singles released in Italy and, believe me, they would have remained unreleased on an international work. There is not a single track which is worth listening. A painful forty minutes to listen to.

Childish, not melodic for a penny, in one word ; poor. That's what you are going to get here. Sub, sub-part Italian music from the mid late sixties. Don't try to find any prog track here, because there aren't any. Just a collection of the most boring songs.

Avoid it by all means, even for free. Their first album was not great at all, but this one is just a big mess. The only bearable song is She Lives For Today. Sung in English.

Compared with other Le Orme's albums this one may seem a bit poor as for the prog side. But considering that these songs come from the first period and represents a sort of passage between beat and prog, in my opinion this work is worth listening, or better there are some very good tracks. For example Irene, Lacrime Di Sale, Fiori E Colori. In addiction the two tracks of L'Aurora Plus, which are the most progressive, show that Le Orme were on the right road.
