4 stars From the tail of Europe comes a progressive band sure to amaze you.

If you are looking for a Dark and Heavy band but Melodic at the same time you will surely find it with Oblique Rain. One of the few well-know Prog Metal bands from Portugal it brings to Portuguese Metal what it should have been brought before.

October Dawn brings you a kind of nostalgic sound from old progressive rock bands but adds a heavier and darker sound filled with melodic and beautifull parts. When I started with the "Soaring Alone" I just couldn't stop until it ended with "Darker Woods" (in my opinion the best song in the album). At a first listen you will only notice the whole sound of the band, you have to listen to it a few more times to concentrate on the various aspects of this album. the vocals play a great part in the song but the instrumental it's surely one of the upsides of this record.

To sum:

It's a must have album. It brings a fresh view on the Progressive Metal scene, showing the more melodic influences but those darker sounds define them completely and puuts them on a pedestal above any other "regular" Progressive Metal band.
