DRIFTER

Drifter is another mellow, guitar-based album by Gordon Giltrap, this time officially featuring John Bradbury on violin. But it is not strictly acoustic guitar and violin, but also some flutes, piano, banjo, and more, appear here and there. But there are no electric instruments, no drums, and no vocals. As such it is far from being a Rock album, but it is also not strictly speaking a relaxation CD or a New-Age album either. It falls in the same category as some solo albums by Steve Howe and perhaps Mike Oldfield in his acoustic moments. Like Giltrap's previous Troubadour album, Drifter too is pleasant to hear, but not really music for active listening as such. This is far away from anything progressive or otherwise challenging, but it is high quality music by a real professional.

The album comes with a bonus disc featuring live recordings by Giltrap on acoustic guitar. Responding to laugher in the audience, Gordon says jokingly "This is serious!" and goes on playing.
