4 stars KALEIDOSKOP were a six piece Jazz Rock band out of Bremen, Germany releasing this sole album back in 1974. Three of the members play horns so we get tenor, alto and two soprano sax, clarinet and flute too. The drumming is excellent as is the bass. Both give brief solos but really it's the horns, flute and organ that tend to solo most often. Some electric piano too but not a lot unfortunately. One of the horn players adds vocals to the only track with singing on "Stranger Blue". He has a unique tone to his voice. This is simply an entertaining release that is impressive on many levels. A talented band. There's so much here that I like here but it's not all praise worthy but still worth the 4 stars in my opinion. The way they change styles is cool with that jamming, trippy sound making me smile. Then there's that dissonance and those experimental bits along with the complexity that spells winner. A lot to absorb here.
